Where Does the money go?

Happy National Nonprofit Day! Today is a day we celebrate those who volunteer for nonprofits, those who donate to nonprofits and those who support nonprofits in any and every way possible. We could not do what we do without the people who believe in our cause just as fiercely and faithfully as we do.

Those who support 525 Foundation financially are helping Nick and Jack live on and touch hundreds of thousands of lives each year. But how? And where does the money go? Here are just a few examples...

• Programming to reach students of all ages. Our message is simple: make good choices related to prescription drug misuse and abuse. Our programming and presentations include development and printing of educational materials, videos and social media outreach. We’re working hard to go where the kids will hear us and see us! 

Sharing 525's story with students to teach them about the Good Samaritan Law, the dangers of prescription drugs and how one choice can change their lives forever.

• Drug disposal programs. We organize and work at quarterly pill drops offered in collaboration with other community coalitions and police departments. 

• Permanent disposal locations Very soon, people who live in our community and have unused prescription drugs in their homes will be able to properly dispose of them at secure pill drop box locations at three area grocery stores. We hope to add even more “Drop 2 Stop” boxes in the South Bend area within the year. 

• Development of a youth advisory board. We know kids know how to talk to kids. We want to learn that language and let them help us with our outreach! Our youth advisory board will be directly involved with planning and implementation of a youth summit in Fall 2019. We are so excited! 

​The point is, every little bit helps. We’re talking about an hour at a fire station on a Saturday collecting pills or making a commitment to donate money so 525 can keep doing what we’re doing. We are so grateful to our tribe and all of the exciting outreach in our future!
